An Insight on the Green Building Industry ---A Grand Opening of GBC 2013

2013.10.14

Green buildings are built to increase the input-output ratio and effectiveness of the energies, water and materials used in the buildings and its surrounding areas as well as to protect and repair human health and the natural environment during the service life of the buildings.

Studies have shown that the majority of green buildings cost 18% -20% more than conventional ones in terms of construction, with an additional 0%-1% of the "green premium." However, about half of the green buildings surveyed can earn back the increased cost through energy and water conservation in five years or even less than that. Also more than 90% of the green buildings can produce good health effects and good productivity during that time.

Green buildings have benefits on the environment, society and the economy. And how do we build them? Well, GBC 2013 is the answer. GBC 2013 (Shanghai Green Building and Energy Efficiency Technology Week) grand opening is held in Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center on October 9th.Together with the green building industry insiders, it will look at the green building industry chain in great depth perspective and provide business opportunities and solutions to leading companies, industry veterans and those who desire to enter the industry. GBC 2013 will last three days with an exhibition area of 25,000 square meters. There will be nearly 150 exhibitors and the number of visits is expected to reach 20,000 or so.

Green Buildings Headed by Modern Designs

As construction industry has broad effects, direct and indirect,on the environment, therefore, there emerge architecture designs that are more sustainable as well as green building codes, certificates and grading systems for measuring and mitigating the harm that construction activities have on the environment.

Internationally recognized codes and standards on green buildings such as LEED, Green Globes, BREEAM, Beam, CASBEE and Green Mark Scheme measure the following indicators: reasonable construction sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, emissions, aesthetics, accessibility, location and staff mobility, livable degree, design innovation, green building awareness and education, project/environmental management and other indicators.

These indicators are comprehensive and thoughtfully designed; therefore, to build an authentic green building true to its meaning is not a work of simply pile-up of technologies. It is the professional design and consultancy that’s the key to making a true green building.

GBC 2013 has a section called “Urban Planning and Architectural Design” which gathers leading architectural design companies and individuals as well as building energy-saving consultancies at home and abroad. These companies include Shanghai Architectural Design (Group) Co.,Ltd., Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Research Institution of Building Science (Group),AECOM, China Academy of Building Research Shanghai Branch, etc. The site display offers a chance for face-to-face communication between them and professional visitors.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology is known as the second design revolution after the birth of CAD. And the "WYSIWYG"(what you see is what you get) concept enables a full simulation of the entire project life cycle management from the top-level design. And relevant feedback enables building design units to amend and improve the program more efficiently, and thus truly build a "green building."

In the “urban planning and architectural design” section, 60% of the companies will showcase in multi-media the ground-breaking changes that BIM brings about to traditional architecture design as well to clients, design units, construction companies and operation and management later on. You will see how houses are built like LEGOs as prefabricated building components like walls, floors and beams are transported to the site and assembled perfectly.

Debut for “Building Industrialization” Zone

Industrialization of construction is a modern way of large-scale industrial production mode that combines manufacturing, transportation, installation and scientific management. From the design, new structures are created, including steel structure, prefabricated structural systems, building components, finished and semi-finished products. Then the factories will produce them, followed by new construction technologies to assemble them. This way,it can achieve effective energy conservation and promote economic and environmental sustainability. It also has great importance in changing the traditional production and construction ways.

GBC 2013 will also have a special feature on “building industrialization”,focused on prefabricated building technologies, which will bring together a large number of backbone enterprises. It’s going to become a major highlight of the exhibition. Leading companies from home and abroad, including Shanghai Urban Construction, Shanghai Construction, China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. Corp.Ltd., Baoye Group, Broad Homes Industrial Co., Ltd, Zhongnan Construction, ShunJie Construction, Liebherr, Nemetschek Engineering GmbH, Elematic CTIEC PC Machinery (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd,Vollert Anlagenbau GmbH and Sika will showcase the latest technological developments in this area, together with real cases.

In the 2013 Shanghai Building Industrialization Forum held on 9th and 10th , October, government leaders from Shanghai Bureau of Housing Management will interpret new policies.

Keynote speakers from Shanghai    Xian       Dai  Architectural  Design   (Group) Co.,Ltd.,Baoye Group, Shanghai Urban Construction, Nemetschek Engineering GmbH,Elematic CTIEC PC Machinery (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd,Vollert Anlagenbau GmbH will meet over 200 developers, construction companies and producers of prefabricated components to discuss the following topics: Opportunities & Challenges for Developing Industrialized Building,Industrialization, Green Revolution for China’s Building Industry,Support for Industrialized Construction Leveraging Chain Penetration,What can modern precast technology offer to the Building Industrialization in China,Industrialized Planning of Precast Structures Considering the Special Requirements to Prefabricated Components in Seismically Active Regions,Prefabrication in Building Envelope Design,Industrialized Construction and Building Information Modeling (BIM),Modern, Cost-Efficient Production of Precast Elements:An Expert Insight into Production Methods, Plant Technology and Building Expertise
